Ruth Amrein Smith of Baltimore died Jan 14 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. She was 85.
Born in Fallston, she was the daughter of Lewis August and Annetta Louise Snider Amrein and was the wife of the late Clifford Bergman Smith, Sr.
Mrs. Smith was a life member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Jarrettsville and an associate member of Oak Crest Village Protestant Faith. She was a life member of Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxilary and the Eastern Star of Parkton. She volunteered at the former Fallston General Hospital for more than 20 years. She was a former Brownie and 4-H Leader. She served on many boards and taught Sunday School at Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Ruth Ann Poole and her husband J. William Poole, Jr. of Jarrettsville, and Gail Smith Thomas and her husband David W. Thomas, of White Hall; daughter-in-law Cherry A. Smith of Forest Hill; three brothers, Elwood Amrein of Perry Hall, George Amrein of Albemarle, N.C., and Mervin Amrein of Joppa; two sisters, Mabel Scarborough of Glen Arm, and Frances Smith of White Hall; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sons Clifford B. Smith, Jr. , and Lewis Edward Smith, two brothers, Carl Amrein and Willard Amrein, and three sisters, Helen Amrein, Clara Fritsche, and Minnie Amos.
Friends may call at Bethel Church today, Jan 16, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held Jan. 17 at 11:00 at the church with the Rev. Diana Crider and the Rev. Bruce Barstow officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Poole, David Thomas, Jack Poole, Clifford Smith, III, John Wunner, David Rose, and Reuben Kraft.
