Milam D. (Tom) Hill peacefully passed away in a Temple nursing home on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the age of 94. He was born in 1915 in Thorndale, Salty Community. He was one of four children born to Bascum and Myrtle Luckey Hill. He had been a Temple resident for the last 62 years. He married Laura Eiland in Cameron and together they celebrated 69 years of family, church, friends, work and the bounties of life. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2005.

Tom served in the United States Army during World War II. After his discharge, he began a career in civil service at Camp Swift and then Fort Hood. After 30 years, he retired from the Post Engineers as Superintendent of Heating. He received numerous citations for his high quality work and cost savings recommendations. The "Shop" was his second home and he very much enjoyed working with the staff and soldiers.

After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with the Chisholm Trail Good Sams Trailer Club, anniversary celebrations in Cancun and Nashville and spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon and husband, Albert Younts of Sherman, Susan and husband, James Kamas of Temple, son, Dennis and wife, Bonnie of Temple, two granddaughters, Risse Hill of Temple and Andrea and husband, Andrew Johnson of North Richland Hills and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Caroline and Andrew Johnson. Also, brother, Eugene and wife, Jean Hill of Greenville, sisters, Louise and husband, John Chesser of Sherman, Myrtle Crumley of Lake Jackson, Carlie and husband, Paul Herbert of Oakwood and Marie and husband, Tommy of Hutto. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, step-mother, three brothers, sister and a grandson, Alan Younts.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Road, Temple.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24 at Memorial Baptist Church, 6161 South 5th Street, Temple conducted by Rev. Roy Parker.

The family expresses thanks to the world-class staff at the William R. Courtney Nursing Home; to special niece, Earlene and husband Roy Jennings and special friends, Teresa and Mel Morillo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Baptist Church or the Temple College Foundation.
