Mrs. Bernard Steffen, nee Catherine Gessner, 73, of Fredonia, died at her
home at 9:15 this morning after a lingering illness. The daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. John Gessner, she was born at Dacada on April 25, 1882.
She was married to Bernard Steffen at Dacada on Oct. 12, 1904. Soon after
the couple came to Fredonia where they operated a grocery store and harness
repair business until 1945. Funeral services will be held at Jungers Funeral
Home, Dacada, at 9 o'clock Thursday morning and at St. Rose of Lima Church,
Fredonia, at 9:30. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call at
Jungers Funeral Home from late Tuesday afternoon until time of services.
Members of the Chrisitian Mothers Society will recite the rosary at 7:30
Wednesday night. Survivors include the widower; two sons, Menroy of Plymouth
and Nicholas of Fredonia; one daughter, Cecela at home; nine grandchildren;
one brother, John of Random Lake; and one sister, Mrs. Christine Steffen of
Milwaukee. Preceding her in death were five children, three brothers and two
sisters.
