Born Sept. 15, 1928, in Martinsville, He was the son of the late Ted and Mable (Payton) Ferran.
He married Rita G. (Carpenter) Ferran on June 23, 1955. She died on Jan 10, 1997.
He was employed by Twigg Corporation in Martinsvile and the Martinsville Brick Yard. He was owner/operator of Ferran's Bait and Tackle Shop in Martinsville.
He was pastor of The Church of Jesus Christ for more than 30 years. He later attended several area churches.
He had been an evangelist, serving as a missionary in Haiti.
He was an active member of the Doc's Club (Albert Merritt Boys Club).
He had served as a private in the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting Indiana artifacts, and making guns, pistols and muzzleloaders.
Survivors include three sons, Stephen L. and David T. Ferran, both of Martinsville, and Daniel N. Ferran of Cape Coral, Fla.; four daughters, Melinda Ann McClaran, Vanessa D. Young and Stephanie Ferran, all of Martinsville; and Valeri D. Haines of Nashville; three sisters, Rose Quakenbush of Paragon, and Wanda Quakenbush and Julia Moon, both of Martinsville; three brothers, Teddy "Jay", Robert "Tudy" and Charles "Tom" Ferran, all of Martinsville; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wiley "Walley" and Theodore "Barney" Ferran.
The celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Neal and Summers Mortuary in Martinsville.
Visiting hours will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Neal and Summers Mortuary in Martinsville.
Burial will be in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
