Roszczynialski Youth Is Killed

Transfer Truck Goes Off Highway Sunday Approaching Seward
Jerome "Rusty" Roszczynialski, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roszczynialski, was killed instantly about 9:45 Sunday morning when the Loup Valley Transfer truck he was driving left the road and landed in a creek bottom about four miles north of Seward on Highway 15.

The youth, who was taking a cargo of cream to Lincoln from Loup City, apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Tracks on the highway and the shoulder indicate that the huge vehicle began to leave the road on the right side 190 feet before a
small bridge, which was just grazed by the left rear wheel of the truck as it went by. Witnesses, a passenger car driver who had been following, and a farmer near the scene, said no other vehicle had been approaching and that there was no other apparent reason for the accident.
A call was made to Seward, and the fire department and rescue squad came at once. The crews found young Roszczynialski's body crushed in the cab, into which
momentum had carried the truck trailer when the accident occurred.

The driver was a graduate of Loup City high school, Class of 1948. He worked for the Tucker trucking outfit until the first of this year, when he went over to the Loup Valley line along with the Tucker company. He was tall, strong, and even-tempered.

Funeral services were held at St. Josaphat's Catholic church on Wednesday morning, June 28, by the Rev. August Wajckus, followed by burial in St. Josaphat's cemetery.
Pallbearers were Leo and Ray Kowalewski, Clarence Damratowski, Lloyd Tucker, Ronald Trompke, and Max Tillekowski.

Jerome Edward Roszczynialski was born Feb. 26, 1931, at Rockville to Joe and Nellie Kezeor Roszczynialski. He attended the parochial school and Loup City high school. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Gerald and Donald, by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Roszczynialski of Rockville, and by many uncles and aunts.
