Leo served in the military in WWI, as did his brother Clovis and his cousin Alfred.
As a young man, Leo worked as a teamster hauling timber. Then for many years he worked as a caretaker and horse handler for the Fassler family at Camp Log Tavern, a recreational facility outside Milford, Penna.
Leo and Margaret reared three daughters, Nat, Teen and Pat. Pat recalled how smart her father was despite his limited schooling. He was able to plan and build even large carpentry projects in his head, and had very little overage in his purchased supplies. She also recalled his wit. Although his parents spoke French, his French was limited to "Chevrolet Coupe DeVille, oui, oui!"
Leo was an avid angler, and after work was wont to go fishing on Log Tavern Lake. He also was a hunter. Leo's and Margaret's living room contained a framed Hunter's Prayer, which went something like, Lord, let me hunt clean and kill clean. And if I cannot hunt clean and kill clean, Lord, let me miss clean.
