Services Held Monday for Zenneth Allred
Funeral services were held Monday Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. in the Osmond Ward Chapel, Bp. McKay Erickson conducting, for Zenneth W. Allred, 49, former Osmond Ward bishop, how died Thursday Oct 31 in the Star Valley LDS Hospital of a coronary occlusion.
Zenneth Woodrow Allred was born the second on and fifth child of Edwin Nelson Allred and Sarah Jane Nield Allred on Dec 21, 1913 at Afton, Wyo.
At the time of his birth his parents lived on the home ranch in Osmond where his father engaged in farming, freighting and sheep raising. It was from these occupations that Zenneth had his childhood experiences.
His father and uncle, Arlin Allred homesteaded the area in the hills south of Star Valley known as Allred Flat. They grazed a herd of sheep there for two summers. Zenneth attended school at Osmond and Afton.
When he was about eight or nine years of age he became ill with rheumatic fever. This attack lasted for about a year and left him with a damaged heart, which has been a cause for concern ever since. This condition didn't prevent him from enjoying most of the activities of the average person.
He remembered riding the freight wagon with his father as he made his trips to Montpelier. He and his brothers were always full of energy and ideas and the hills east of the ranch provided a great play ground for the boys.
It was in his high school years that he met Wilda Hokanson of Grover, Wyo. They were married Nov. 6 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple. To them were born seven children, Beth, Leron, Carol, Luann, Bradley, Debra and Cindy.
Mr Allred began working as an auto mechanic for his father in about 1932 when his father managed the Chevrolet agency, and had worked at this trade almost without interruption since then. He was employed by several of the auto repair businesses in Afton, and in the fall of 1959 he opened his own repair shop next to his home in Osmond. He was very successful in the mechanic business and was well known for his efficiency and honesty in his work.
He owned the home ranch, which was his father's and he acquired a section of dry farm land with which he operated along with his auto repair work.
Mr Allred served as president of the Osmond Farm Bureau Local and he served in many church positions. He filled a stake mission from 1944 to 1947 and served in the stake MIA Sunday School superintendencies plus various ward positions and offices.
He served as a counselor in the Osmond Ward Bishopric for six years prior to being sustained as bishop of the ward on June 11, 1961.
On Oct 28, 1962 he suffered a serious illness from which he partially recovered. In consideration of his condition he was released as bishop in January 1963.
Mr Allred had been a hunting and fishing enthusiast for many years. It was the family's regular feature to go on a camping and hunting trip.
Through his integrity and desire to help others, leaving his own work to help a neighbor he gained many friends, with whom he always enjoyed associating with. He was a patient and devoted husband and father.
Survivors include his wife Wilda; daughters, Luan, Debra, and Cindy; and son Bradley, all of Afton; daughters Mrs Robert (Beth) Perry, Ogden, Utah; and Mrs Grant (Carol) Kennington, Ogden, Utah; and son Deron, Panama City Fla.; mother Mrs Sarah Allred Afton; brothers Lesile and von Afton; Paul, Brigham City, Utah; Doyle Logan, Utah; and Thede, Spring Valley Calif.; sisters Mrs Ben (Opal) Gomm, Mt Emmons, Utah; Mrs Fielding (Josie) Winward, Preston Idaho; and Mrs Sherman (Orene) Hickman, Cheyenne, Wyo.
Burial was in the Afton Cemetery under the direction of Schwab Mortuary.
