Jeff was born in the Spring Hill community about seven miles west of Clarksville. His parents were William "Will" Jackson Conway and Josephine Fenella "Jody" Sherman. Jody became Will's wife after the death of his first wife Tennessee McMillan.
Jeff died of diphtheria. He was preceded in death by his brother Glenn Conway. Glenn was born June 4, 1905 and died in August at the age of two months.
Jeff was survived by his mother and father, 4 sisters; Ura Lee Conway, Anna Elizabeth Conway, Willie Suzanne Conway, and Nissie Pearl Conway, a half brother Sylvester Conway and a half sister Beulah Ethel Conway Phillips.
