Benjamin I. Church of Elk Rapids died Saturday at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility following a lengthy illness. He was 89 years old. Survivors Include his widow, Lena (Lardie) Church, three children, James, at home; Mrs. Elizabeth Paddock of Madison, Wis., and Mrs. Mary Ann Wade of West Allis, Wis.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was born Dec. 15, 1885, to Benjamin and Nancy DePuy Church in Summit City, Mich. He was married to Lena Lardie on Oct. 12, 1910. Educated in Traverse City, he attended Dockery Business College and worked at the First National Bank in Traverse City as a young man until moving to Wisconsin. There he was employed by the Fire Insurance Rating Bureau, where he was manager of the Madison office for many years. He retired in 1950 and returned to Michigan, living first in Torch Lake and then Elk Rapids. He was a life member of the Traverse City Masonic Lodge, F&AM, the Blue Goose of Madison, and a member of the Madison Insurance Board. Services are scheduled Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Dockery-Wil- helm-Smith Funeral Home in Elk Rapids. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 1 to 9 p.m.
