According to “stories passed down: it’s been said George lied about his age to get into the army. His birth date is 02 JUN 1847. His Death Certificate lists his death on 05 OCT 1905, which made him as 58 years, 4 months and 3 days old. Given these facts, he was 16 years, 6 months and 5 days old when he enlisted; 2-1/2 years too young to join; but....join he did!
