GREENVILLE, SC - William Leon Southerland, 88, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at Laurel Woods in Columbus, North Carolina.
Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Emory W. and Mamie Lister Southerland and husband of the late Evelyn Galloway Southerland.
Mr. Southerland retired from WPNF radio station in Brevard, North Carolina, and was formerly affiliated with WFBC radio station. He was a member of Monaghan United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Rachel S. Wilson, and her husband, D. B., of Greenville, S.C.; a son, Rev. Gerald Southerland, and wife, Linda, of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Lisa Williams, and husband Mart; two grandsons, Greg Southerland and wife Suzanna and Jeff Southerland and wife Jill; two great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
A private graveside service will be held Friday at Graceland Cemetery, West, at 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held Sunday at Monaghan United Methodist Church at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Word of Faith Christian School, 207 Old Flynn Road, Spindale, North Carolina 28160; Monaghan United Methodist Church, 2 McBeth Street, Greenville, SC 29611; or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, North Carolina 28722.
