Eugene Burns, son of Henry Burns, died Tuesday, October 31, 1931, of blood poison, in the St. John's Hospital, Springfield. His age was 20 years and 5 months. About three weeks ago he and his brother were boxing on the porch of their home, in the Bear Creek neighborhood, when Eugene fell from the porch and the telephone rod pierced his hip. The wound was not serious and not much was thought of it, but it became worse and blood poison set in. He was taken to St. John's Hospital and his condition grew worse until his death Tuesday. He is survived by his father and one sister, Juanita, and two brothers, Oliver and Homer. He was born on the farm adjoining his present home and has spent most of his life in Laclede County. Funeral services were held in the Bennett Cemetery near Brice with a large crowd in attendance. Rev. Mr. Schrivener officiating. Interment was in the Bennett Cemetery.
