Death of Walter Lanphier
Died at his residence in Painesville, Wednesday evening, October 31, 1883, Walter Lanphier, aged 55 years. Deceased has been a proprietor of the hotel bearing his name at the Lake Shore Railroad depot, for many years, in fact dating back almost to the completion of that road. He was a popular landlord and had an extensive acquaintance, not only at home but with a large class of traveling public by whom his many social qualities were marked and appreciated, and who will regret to learn the sad intelligence of his death. Mr. Lanphier had been confined to his bed for several months during which time he had been a great sufferer, his disease baffling the best medical and surgical skill. A wife and six children are left to mourn the loss of an affectionate husband and father and a large circle of friends will miss his genial and ever pleasant companionship. The funeral was largely attended at St. Mary's Church, Saturday morning, and the remains were deposited in the vault at Evergreen Cemetery.
