She was born in South Amboy, and was a lifelong resident of the area. She once worked for National Lead in Sayreville. She was the matriarch of a family business, Lockwood Boat Works, Inc. that she owned and operated with her husband and partner, William. That business is still prospering and is being run by their 10 children.
She was a graduate of Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of South Amboy and a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court Santa Maria 382.
Mary was a loving and caring person devoted to her family and faith and will be sadly missed.
She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Armstrong. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William "Bill"; her children: a daughter, Cathy, and her husband, Bill Wisneski; a son, Michael; a son, Bill, and his wife, JoAnn (Reddin); a daughter, Pat, and her husband, Carl "Bud" Rose; a daughter, Mary Ann, and her husband, Jim Langan; a daughter, Janet, and her husband, Edwin O'Connor; a son, Robert, and his wife, Maureen (McCourt); a daughter, Judy, and her husband, Steve Speicher; a daughter, Ellen, and her husband, Joe Harrigan; a daughter, Theresa; a brother, Eugene Armstrong, and his wife, Claire; and 25 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. at The Gundrum Service "Home for Funerals," 237 Bordentown Ave., South Amboy, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, South Amboy. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, South Amboy.
