Irene Margaret Elder, age 98, a resident of Fort Scott, KS, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at the Mercy Health Center. She was born May 22, 1909, in Redfield, KS, the daughter of Edgar M. Kimbley and Mable Lucas Kimbley. She married Ralph Elder in Girard, KS, in 1934. He preceded her in death in 1976. She was a member of Grace Baptist Tabernacle and enjoyed quilting. She was the last of her family.

Irene is survived by two sons, Edgar Elder and wife Sharon, Redfield, KS, and Gerald Elder, Kansas City, MO; a daughter, Norma Grimes and husband Gene, Fort Scott; six grandchildren, Janet Clayton, Paula Coyan, Julie Schafer, Delbert Elder, Marlene Willis, and Tina Biggs; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Delbert and Fred Kimbley, and Claude and Ralph Horning; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Elder.

Funeral services for Irene Elder will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2007, at the Cheney Witt Chapel, with Rev. Paul Rooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Woods Cemetery at Redfield. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time Friday morning at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Grace Baptist Tabernacle and may be left in care of Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, KS, 66701.
