Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Doris was born June 26, 1929, in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Lawrence Polk and Abby Grooms Polk.
She retired after a lengthy career with Sears. Doris was a 1946 graduate of Memminger High School and in November of that year she married her husband, Charles. She grew up as a member of Citadel Square Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the nursery. She later became an active member of Charleston Baptist Church also serving in the nursery.
Doris is survived by her two sons, Brigadier General Rick Ethredge (Angie), USAF Retired, of Mount Pleasant; Don L. Ethredge (Deborah A.W.) of James Island, SC; her daughter Joni Killough (Carroll) of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and her brother Larry Polk (Sarah) of Edisto Island.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Marshall Polk.
Memorials may be made to Charleston Baptist Church, 13 San Miguel Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
