MRS. J W. PROCTOR died rather suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harm Harms, north of town, at 3 o'clock on Friday afternoon of last week after an illness of over a year resulting from a stroke of apoplexy. She was aged 74 years, one month and eight days. Thus has passed during the past few months another of Rutland's long time residents and highly respected citizens.
Leora Jeanette Frink, eldest daughter of William and Margaret Frink, was born at Moretown, Vermont, on Dec. 27, 1851.
At the age of four years, with her brother and parents, she moved westward across the country to Illinois, located near Rockford. In 1859, the family moved to Panola and in 1864 they moved to near Metamora. Five years later the family moved to this village where the parents passed away at an advanced age.
On Sept. 28, 1873, the deceased was united in marriage to J. Warren Proctor of Rutland and to them was born one daughter, Mrs. Edna Harms. Mr. Proctor passed away on July 18, 1916, and Mrs. Proctor continued to live in the old home nine years longer, or a total of fifty-two years. On Dec. 23, 1924, she was stricken with paralysis. When able she was moved to the home of her daughter, north of Rutland, where she was tenderly cared for until the end which occurred as stated above.
Mrs. Proctor was a charter and ever faithful member of the Woman's Relief Corps, No. 39, of Rutland and held numerous offices in that organization, including president. She was brought up in the Advent faith and attended that Church for many years. In later years, however, after the dissolution of the Advent society in Rutland, she attended the Methodist church and for many years was a member of its Enterprise Society.
Mrs. Proctor was a woman of good Christian character which won for her a large circle of friends. She was concerned about the better things of life and was always interested in the affairs of the community.
She leaves to mourn her departure her only child, Mrs. Edna Harms, and nine grandchildren, Warren, Elmer, Herbert, Willard, Albert, Leora, Louise, Ralph and Myra Mae; one brother Leonard Frink, of Rutland; one brother-in-law, Frank Kingore, of Pontiac; also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by a former pastor, Rev. A. J. Pitman of Granville. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. L. E. Ingram, Mrs. W. B. Wiles, M. D. Allen and Harry Emery, Mrs. F. W. Sauer accompanist.
Following the funeral discourse, the members of the Rutland W. R. C., observed their ritualistic service. The six oldest grandchildren of Mrs. Proctor, Warren, Elmer, Herbert, Willard, Albert and Leora Harms, were flower children. After the services at the church, the remains were conveyed to Rutland cemetery where they were laid to rest in the family plot.
Relatives and friends from out of town present at the funeral were: Frank Kingore, Pontiac, Ill; George C. Proctor, South Sioux City, Neb.; Miss Arline Proctor, Sioux City, Iowa; Arch Dicken and Mr. and Mrs. George Cassidy of Cornell, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. George Tucker, Rowland Tucker, Roger Tucker, John Feken and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Crawford and Mrs. Dove, of Minonk; Mr. and Mrs. John Harms, of Benson; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mathis, of Streator; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Harrington, of Wenona; and Rev. A. A. Rodgers, of Roanoke.
