About 1860, Phillip was living in Alabama and he married Elizabeth R. "Betsey" Currier. Together, Phillip and Betsey, had Samuel, Jane, James Atkins, Mary Leanna, Lenoir and Richard Hess. Phillip and his family were farmers according to the 1860 and 1870 US Federal Census Records.
