Thomas P. Emery was born in Stark Co., Ill., January 29, 1838, and died at his home south of Mahaska, Kansas, June 24, 1913.
When but a boy his parents moved to Clarke County, Iowa, and at the age of 23 he enlisted in the 3rd Iowa Cavalry, and served through the Civil War.
He was married to Almeda Bever, Dec. 28, 1865. To this union was born nine children, seven boys and two girls, all with his wife survive him. He with his family moved to Washington Co. Kan., in 1883 where he resided until his death.
Mr. Emery having been a member of the Christian Church since his youth, services were held in the Presbyterian church, Mahaska, Kansas, conducted by Bro. Lowe of Belleville, Kansas.
The A.F. and A.M. Lodge of Narka had charge of the services at the cemetery, of which Mr. Emery has been a member for forty years.
Mr. Emery will be greatly missed in his home as a loving husband and father, he also will be missed in the community, as a friend and neighbor, he was always ready to do a kind act, or speak a cheering word.
