Dies At Camp

A military funeral was held here at St. Mary's cemetery of a former Kaukauna boy, William Brill, Jr., who died at Great Lakes Naval Training station Saturday, Sept. 21, from pneumonia after a week's illness following an attack of influenza. Mr. Brill was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Brill of Appleton, former residents of a farm on the south side, just outside the city limits in the town of Buchanan.
He was an attendant of the Kaukauna schools during his boyhood and then was sent to St. Norbert's college, West Depere, where he graduated.
A few years ago the family moved to Appleton where William was employed at the Geenen store, until he enlisted in the U.S. naval department and had been at Great Lakes about six months, in training as a member of the 13th Regiment.
His body was brought to the home of his parents, 1091 Spencer street, Appleton, Tuesday, and the fuenral services were held at St. Mary's church, Appleton, Wednesday morning at nine o'clock, with interment in the family lot at St. Mary's cemetery, South Kaukauna.
Surving are his parents, one brother and three sisters, Louis, Katherine, Alma and Jeanette Brill at home. Elizabeth Brill, a sister, was drowned at Lake Winnebago two years ago.
Several members of the Trinity Council of Defense and an escort, of the State Guards were in attendance, accompanying the remains to the place of burial where they concluded the services in military style.
The pallbearers were John Mullen, Armond Dogot, John Roth, Harry Kerrigan, Alphonse Lewandownsky and Matt. Schafer.
