Biography: Very Reverend Robert V. Carney, SAC Provencial - Pallottines 1939 - 2003 God has called our beloved "Fr. Bob" to his eternal rest on Monday November 3, 2003. He was found in his room after having missed the 7:00 AM Mass at the Pius XI High School Chapel. At the time of his death he was 64 years old, a Pallottine for 42 years and a priest for 37 years. Fr. Bob was born in Eau Claire, WI on October 17, 1939, attended Grade School at Stone's Pocket School, North Freedom, WI and entered Queen of Apostles Seminary in Madison, WI for high school and 2 years of college. He entered our Novitiate in 1959 and was professed in 1961. He attended St. Joseph's Seminary in Washington, DC and was ordained on April 16, 1966 at St. Vincent Pallotti Church (Holy Cross site). Outside of 2 years in Vocation and Formation Ministry, Fr. Carney was assigned to Pius XI High School. He fell in love with the young people, the faculty, staff and parents at Pius XI High School. As teacher of Religion, Big Buddies Mentor, School Chaplain and Alumni Director, he enjoyed his ministry immensely. His alumni work brought him to many places in the states, where he enjoyed the company of past alumni. Just 2 days before his death was the last reunion for the year. As a faithful Pallottine to so many, he was often called upon for weddings, baptisms and funerals in which his Irish heart was so moved. For the Pallottines in North America, Fr. Bob took a great interest in Pallottine Horizons a bi-annual gathering of the Pallottine Priests, Brothers and Sisters since 1975. He only missed one gathering over the years. He was so very proud of that. In the fall of 1996, Fr. Bob was appointed the Provincial of the Mother of God Province and held that post until his death. Attending the international meetings of the community brought new insights. At a recent province chapter preparation meeting he said with conviction: "The Union of the Catholic Apostolate is our main focus for the third Millennium." Fr. Bob liked to travel and for a few years made it his goal to visit all the National parks in the 50 states. At other times he enjoyed going to plays and more often than not, could be found at many a dinner table of those he befriended over the years. Father Bob is preceded in death by his parents Victor and Marie (Donovan) Carney and survived by three sisters and one brother, Julie (Paul) Troiber, Tomahawk, WI, James Carney, North Freedom, WI, Margaret (John) Crahen, Baraboo, Cathy (Thomas) Wagner, Cedarburg, WI, the members of the Pallottine Community and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 10th at St. Vincent Pallotti Church near Pius XI High School at 76th and Stevenson - 201 N 76th St - Milwaukee, WI. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM, with the Mass at 7:00 PM. Burial will be on Tuesday November 11th at 9:30 AM at Holy Cross Cemetery.
