Surgoinsville- Henry Clay Crawford, 84, of Surgoinsville went to be in the arms of Jesus to meet his loving wife late Tuesday night (May 20, 2008) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Clay was a lifelong resident of Surgoinsville. He was a member of Clay Lodge #386 F & AM. Clay retired from Tennessee Eastman Kodak with over 42 years of service. Mr. Crawford was a member of Oakdale Central Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He sang with the Crawford Quartet for many years. He was an avid farmer.

Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Martha Gilreath Crawford in August of 2006; a grandson, Nathan Clay Crawford; his parents, Charlie & Martha Williams Crawford; a brother, Jake Crawford & a half-brother, Jim Crawford.

Clay Crawford is survived by his sons, Charles Howard Crawford & his wife, Pam, Glen Crawford & his wife, Cynthia (both of Rogersville); his daughters, Carolyn Anderson & her husband, Rev. Jerry (Church Hill), Linda McLain & her husband, Lester (Fall Branch); grandsons, Jonathan Crawford & his wife, Angela, Brian Anderson, Ethan Crawford; granddaughters, Melissa Hamilton & her husband, Jamie, Rachel Tipton & her husband, Jimmy, Jennifer McLain; two great grandsons, Matthew Hamilton & Maxwell Crawford; two great granddaughters, Afton Tipton & Erin Tipton; a step-great grandson, Benjamin Simpson; a step-great granddaughter, Madeline Simpson; his brothers, W. M. Crawford & William Crawford; a sister, Ruth Byington (all of Surgoinsville) along with several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday (May 22, 2008) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday (May 22, 2008) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Eddie McAmis & Evangelist Pat Hammond officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday (May 23, 2008) at 10 a.m. at Oakdale Central Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakdale Baptist Church, c/o Carolyn Goodson, 562 Stoney Point Road, Surgoinsville, TN 37873.
