Roberta passed away on June 25, 2008, in Mesa, AZ. The memorial service was held at Skyline Baptist Fellowship, Mesa, on June 28. She is survived by her 3 children, Kathleen Blitch Smith of Show Low & Mesa, AZ; Pat Blitch Clark (Thornton), Montgomery, AL; Tom Roy F. (Mary) Thomas, of Mesa, AZ. Roberta was also blessed with 3 grandchildren, Joseph A. Smith (Kelly Vaillancourt), his 2 children, Michael A. and Jaden L., Apache Jct., AZ; John Anthony Smith (1967-1983), and Jason A. Smith, Pensacola, FL.
Born in Pensacola on Nov. 2, 1921, to Naomi & Felix Davis, she grew up in Marianna, FL. Roberta's first husband was Benjamin Blitch. They were divorced in 1949.
She married Roy T. Thomas on May 4, 1950, moved to Pensacola in 1953, and then to Apache, Jct. AZ in 1984. In 1994, Roy T. passed away and was interred at Elim Baptist Church, Brewton, AL. where Roberta will join him with a future graveside service.
Roberta later married Gerald Hamann, who passed in Feb. 2008 in Mesa.
"Roberta Thomas" served the Pensacola community as a pediatric nurse at Escambia General Hospital for 25 years. Rheumatoid arthritis pain finally took her beloved life.
A mass for the repose of her soul was conducted by the Very Rev. Richard Donohoe at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome on All Soul's Day, and her birthday, Nov. 2, 2008.
