Bowman Cemetery is on land first owned by Samuel Bowman. Samuel first took out land from the US Government in Section 30 in April 1839 and in Section 31 in 1852. Two of his small children, twins dying in 1843 and 1844 were buried on his farm. Another daughter died in 1855, two sons in 1860, Samuel in 1864 and his wife, Rose Ann, in 1898.

Another daughter, Elizabeth, who lived to be quite old, is also there. Daughter Amanda and her husband Marques De Lafayette Kennedy and daughters Rose and Nora are there, as well as son John Roly Bowman and wife, Lucinda Harber, their son Walter Emery Bowman and wife; their daughter, Mary Rosetta Bean and husband Horace and infant son Jesse. James Allen and wife, parents of the husband of daughter Estella, are also there.
