Death struck viciously at the family of Wayne Black, well-known Limestone farmer, when his wife and child were killed Tuesday afternoon in an automobile accident on the Florence road about seven miles from Athens. The dead were Mrs. Mary Simpson Black, 25, of near Athens, her three year old daughter, Mary Ann, and the driver of the other car. Mr. Black received injuries and was unconscious from a blow on the head. He was taken to Limestone Hospital where he regained consciousness and was treated for cuts about the face and hands. (Wet pavement on the highway was the cause of the wreck which caused the other driver to skid sideways hitting the car driven by Mr. Black). A private car stopped at the scene of the accident and rushed the Black family to the hospital but Mrs. Black died on the way. Little Mary Ann was admitted to the hospital and placed immediately under an oxygen tank. She died shortly after. Mr. Black was not seriously injured. He is the son of Roy Black, member of No. 2 Local Selective Service Board. Mary Ann Black was the only child of the young couple. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 o'clock at Riddle Chapel.

A Resolution
Mrs. Wayne Black and Mary Ann Black
Whereas: On January 29th, Our "Woman's Society of Christian Service" was greatly bereaved and shocked to learn that one of our most beloved members, Mary Simpson Black, age 25, and her precious curly-haired little girl, Mary Ann, age 4, had been taken from us in an automobile accident.
So we as members of "Riddles Chapel Society" route two, Athens, Alabama, make the following resolutions:
Be it resolved:
First: That we have lost one of our most devoted and active members. She was always present with Mary Ann by her side.
Second: That we thank God for what they meant to us. Mary's radiant smile, the soft tone of her voice that seemed to set everyone at ease, her splendid Christian character, and the sunshine of Mary Ann's presence cannot be seen anymore, but the influence of their young lives will forever live with us.
Third: That we want to follow the examples Mary set before us, of faithfulness, of loyalty, of kindness, and cooperation spent in her church and in her community.
Fourth: That a copy of these resolutions be sent to "The Alabama Courier," "The Limestone Democrat," and "The Alabama Christian Advocate," for publication.
"They're now at home with God,
And no more of earth will trod,
But we shall see them on the streets of gold,
And walk with them and God in heaven's fold."
Signed, Members of Society
