John William Tuttle was the son of Henry William Tuttle and Courtney (Walker) Tuttle. His father was born 1808 in Litchfield, CT and died in 1884 Monticello, KY. His mother was born 1817 at Paris, Kentucky and died at Mill Springs, KY May 8 1846. His grandfather was William Tuttle born 1794 Litchfield CT and married a Miss Lewis.

John William Tuttle married July 2 1867 at Brownsboro, Oldham Co. KY Miss Mollie A. Milton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Milton of Oldham County.
John William Tuttle was a member of the Kentucky bar for a period of 63 years. He served in the Civil War enlisting Aug 8, 1861 in Company H, Third Regiment, Kentucky Volunteer Infantry receiving a commission as first lieutenant. May 4 1862 he was promoted to Captain of Company G, same regiment and served to the close of the war. In 1866 he was elected county attorney of Wayne County and served 1866-1870. He resided in a comfortable home on Elk Spring Street.

Bartleson proprietor of a grocery at Monticello; Lalla C. the wife of George W. Metcalf an insurance and real estate broker at Louisville; Katherine, the wife of John P. Cunningham, a lumber inspector of Glen Mary, TN; Robert a mechanic and house builder of Oakland, CA; Nora, the wife of A.H. Atherton agent for the National Supply Company at Independence, KS; Trigg, a civil engineer of Mount Dora, Florida; Laura, the wife of Virgil P. Jones cashier of the Citizens National Bank of Monticello; and Margaret a clerk in the Citizens National Bank of Monticello, unmarried.
