Phillip's father was Phillip Yost, born in France. His mother was Caroline Claus, also from France, per the certificate of death.

Information from "I Remember Callahan County"
He served in the French Army in the France War of 1870-1871. He was captured by the Germans and held prisoner. He later escaped and swam the Rhine River and came to America. They settled in Dayton, Ohio and lived there for several years and George, Charlie, and Lena were born.

They met a man named Coldwater who was getting together a wagon train to go West. They arrived at Colony Hill (near where Abilene is today located). It was a hard winter and they pushed even further south settling at Tecumseh. Before they could get their house built, Annie was born in their tent.

Mr. and Mrs. Yost were Methodist. Mr. Yost belonged to the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge (a charter member) for fifty years. He was road commissioner or the Tecumseh precinct for years.

In 1912, Phillip Yost married Mattie Manning, a young widow. They had one son, Phil.
