Rites Today For Pioneer
Funeral for George Yost, 73, Taylor County resident 69 years, was to be held at the Lawn Methodist Church at 3 pm today, with Rev. Vernon Willard, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery under direction of Kiker-Warren.
Mr. Yost, whose father helped build the first houses in Abilene, died unexpectedly at his home near Lawn at 6 pm Tuesday.
Born Aug. 20, 1874, in Dayton, Ohio, he came with his parents to what is now Abilene in 1878, settling near Colony Hill.
He entered the grocery business at Lawn in 1917 and 12 years later entered stock farming near there.
Survivors include a son, George Yost Jr. of Lawn; one daughter, Mrs. Matthews Davis of Abilene; two brothers, Charlie and Phil Yost, both of Oplin; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Preston of Oplin, and Mrs. Annie Stevenson of Abilene; a sister-in-law, Christine Herman, who has lived in the Yost home since she was 18 years old; and five grandchildren.
