Wife Of Oplin Rancher Dies
OPLIN, May 17 – Mrs. Tom Windham Sr., 82, resident on Oplin since 1883 and wife of prominent rancher, died at the family residence at 12:50 this morning. She had been in ill health the past year, and her condition had been critical for the past week.
Born Feb. 26, 1866, in Louisiana, she came to Callahan County at the age of 6 years. She was married to Tom Windham Dec. 20, 1883. The couple moved to their present home a day or two after marriage, and have lived there ever since. They own extensive ranching interests in Callahan and other counties.
Mrs. Windham was a member of the Methodist Church and the Eastern Star.
To this marriage 11 children were born, of whom seven survive. The survivors are the husband; two daughters, Mrs. Charlie Straley and Mrs. John Jordon, and five sons, Frank, Tommy, Sam, Ernest and John Windham, all of Oplin; one half-sister, Mrs. Maggie Sanders of Lawn; and 19 grandchildren.
Funeral will be conducted from the family residence at 3 pm Tuesday by Rev. J. T. McKissick of Abilene. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Elliott Funeral Home.
Active Pallbearers will be grandsons: Charlie Tom Straley, Richard Windham, Robert Windham, Ray Davidson, Earle Durham, Jack Hancock, and Howard Windham.
The body will be at the funeral home until the hour of the funeral.
