Apparently named for Tennessee legislator Charles Ready (memorial no. 6917998). Some sources show Dr. Charles Shapard's birth year as 1840.

He died of tuberculosis, one week after his daughter was born; having married Ione (Morgan) Hill, a widow, in 1886.

Charles' brother Henry Shapard, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, named one of his sons (born 1883) Charles Ready Shapard.

The memorial in this cemetery for a boy listed as Charlie Shapard turns out to have been Charlie Shapard Barton (1887-1900), not a relative but named for Dr. Shapard.

Husband dear, take thy rest,
The summer flowers will bloom.
While you, the purest and best,
Doth wither in the tomb.
