He died of tuberculosis, one week after his daughter was born; having married Ione (Morgan) Hill, a widow, in 1886.
Charles' brother Henry Shapard, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, named one of his sons (born 1883) Charles Ready Shapard.
The memorial in this cemetery for a boy listed as Charlie Shapard turns out to have been Charlie Shapard Barton (1887-1900), not a relative but named for Dr. Shapard.

The summer flowers will bloom.
