Eulys Johnson was born the last of 8 children on July 26, 1900 to Tom and Mary Johnson in the house in which he lived all his life, located about 1/2 mile west of Oplin. In his youth he greatly admired one of Tom Windham's cowhands and began calling himself "Pat", and he had that nickname all his life.

On Oct. 13, 1929 he married Alma Washburn, who had come to Oplin to teach school in 1927. She was born on Jan. 19, 1906, the middle child of John and Kate Washburn of Gatesville, Tx. She had attended school at C.I.A. at Denton, Tx.

Soon after their marriage came the Great Depression when time were very hard for everyone, especially a young married couple, but having been raised with a sense of the old fashioned virtues and work values, they accomplished having a home life filled with simple pleasures and a love of life and fun.

Pat and this brothers were primarily ranchers, for a while owning property together, then later dividing it, but they always helped one another.
