Mrs. Johnson, 90, Longtime Resident Of Oplin, Dies

BAIRD (RNS) – Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Johnson, 90, of Oplin, died about 10 am Wednesday at her home after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Johnson had lived in Texas for 70 years and at Oplin for more than 65 years. Her husband, C. C. Johnson, a farmer, died in 1924. They were married in 1892 at Tecumseh, Tex.

She was born July 21, 1868, in Nashville, Tenn.

Funeral will be held at 3 pm Thursday in the Church of Christ in Oplin with Eddie J. Weems, Fort Worth minister, officiating. Assisting will be ministers J. D. Coffman of Dudley and Lavelle Layfield of Oplin. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Wylie Funeral Home of Baird.

Pallbearers will be M. J. Rutlan, Albert Betcher, Howard Johnson, Frank Johnson, Nance Mitchell and Manton Reed.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Annye Slough of 1158 Sycamore, Abilene, and Mallie Johnson of Oplin; one sister Mrs. M. L. Pope of McAllen; three brothers, E. E. Buchanan and T. L. Buchanan, both of Rosedale, Tex., and C. H. Buchanan of Thomas, Tex.; seven grandchildren and over 10 great-grandchildren.
