Betcher Boy's Funeral Today; Illness Fatal To California Youth, Kin Of Callahan Pioneer
Last rites for 13-year-old William Betcher, California boy who Monday morning lost his long battle against death, will be said at the graveside in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Callahan County, at 3 o'clock this afternoon. The lad, grandson of Albert Betcher of near Oplin, succumbed in a local hospital yesterday at 8:30 am.
The lad had been living with his grandfather for the past 15 months, and was a student at the Oplin school. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Betcher reside in San Bernadino, Calif. Mrs. Betcher had been at her son's bedside for more than a week when he died.
The lad's grandfather is one of Callahan County's earliest settlers, having lived in the Oplin community for more than 50 years. The home is four miles from Oplin.
Besides his parents and his grandfather, the youth is survived by four brothers, Lynden, Paul, Freddie, and Jimmie, and two sisters, Verda Ray and Florence; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Chestnut of Loma Linda, Calif.; two uncles, Albert Betcher Jr., and John Betcher of Oplin, and an aunt, Mrs. C. P. Clouse of Zenita, Okla.
