Jane was born in Floyd County, Kentucky the daughter of William James Morgan Allen and Sarah "Sally" Hicks. On May 11, 1882 in Floyd County, Kentucky she married Sam Hale the son of James Mainard Hale and Mary "Polly" Shepherd. They were both 21. Their children were: Polly Ellen Hale Whitaker, Sally L. Hale, Julia Hale Hicks, Martha Ann Hale Wireman, & her twin Mary Hale (who died at birth), Susannah Maudie Hale Layne, Jesse James Hale, Frank James Hale, Dosie H. Hale Chaffins, Lindsay Layne Hale, Owen Hale, and two twin unnamed baby boys that died at birth.
