Mary Leona Barry, 84, of Richland Center, died on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Pine Valley Healthcare in Richland Center. Everyone always knew Mary as "Leona". She was the lady with the big laugh and the big out going nature. Leona was born on September 3, 1924 the daughter of Ira Harrison Stuart and Minnie (Carter) Stuart.

Leona has lived in Richland Center, WI since 1982. She was raised in Elgin, Il with her many sisters and one brother. In 1942 she married Claude Robert Barry and they lived there married life in Woodstock, IL. While in Woodstock the couple became known as "Ma and Pa Bear" at the Woodstock Children's Home. They were Houseparent's there for much of their working lives and felt truly blessed to be a part of so many children's formative years. Leona always loved to cook and worked with her sister-in-law Caroline Barry at Sunset Manor Retirement Home.

Leona was proud to have achieved her dietitian license later in life and worked for many years at the Woodstock Residence supervising the kitchen. Upon moving to Richland Center WI, Leona once again touched the lives of children while taking part in the Foster Grandparent Program in the public school system. She spoke often of "her kids," and how much she enjoyed her time with them.

Leona has spent the last two years at Pine Valley Manor. Her recent struggle has been hard but it never damped her spirit and she was always able to give a smile.

Leona is survived by: her daughter, Jan Barry of Wetumka, Oklahoma, sisters, Eva May Brown of South Elgin, Illinois, Flora Isabelle Beltz of Huntley, Illinois, Virginia "Pat" Ackman (Walter) Huston of Richland Center, WI, 3 sisters-in-law, Caroline (Walter "Bud) Barry, Woodstock Illinois, Dorthy (Glen) Hammer, Amboy, Illinois, Judy (Denver) McCowan, Woodstock Illinois. She is also survived by nieces and nephews to numerous to name and all of the many friends she has gathered in a lifetime of happiness and love. Leona has been an active member of the Nazerine Church in Richland Center and will be missed and remembered by her family in God as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Nelson Stuart; sisters Arlene Butts and Dorothy Miller.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel in Richland Center with Pastor Chuck Hayes officiating. Burial was held at the Sextonville Cemetery.

Friends called on Monday, October 20, 2008, at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 1:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 PM.

The Pratt Funeral Service of Richland Center assisted the family with their arrangements.
