Albert Mahan served in the Civil War as a private and sargeant, Company D, Willis Cavalry Battalion, Waul`s Texas Legion,CSA. He enlisted May 14, 1862. He served in Vicksburg Miss. Prisoner of war records show that he was paroled at Jackson, Miss. May 13, 1865. At the time of his enlistment, his commanding officer was Capt. J. Duff Brown. He enlisted for three years or war. His place of birth was listed as Tenn. He was 25 at the time, unmarried, and his county of residence was Fayette ,Tx. He married Annie Scallorn in 1865. He owned land in Desoto Co. Miss. in 1870 next to his father-in-law, Joseph Scallorn. Sometime later he moved to Tx. after spending a short time in Ark. Albert Mahan purchased land in Gonzales Co. Tx. It consisted of 140 acres and was bought for the price of $287.19. The date was April 20, 1888.

Annie and Albert met during the civil War at her home in Looxahoma, Miss.They married June 21, 1863. In 1870 they owned property next to her father, Joseph Scallorn. (Joseph owned 320 acres, Albert owned 160.)
