Obituary - John Whittaker Roundy, 87, of Pleasant Grove, passed away Friday, July 30, 2004, at his home. He was born November 14, 1916, in Panguitch, Utah, to John Davis and Maggie Fawcett Roundy. He married LeOra Gordon on May 29, 1939, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. LeOra passed away on January 1, 1984. He married Addie Rae Webb in June of 1984.
Johns childhood was spent in Alton, Utah. His family moved to Pleasant Grove when he was 8 years old. He served in the CCCs and later married LeOra, and made their home in Pleasant Grove. While raising his family, he joined the Merchant Marines and served in the Pacific Theater.Upon his return from the war, he worked at Geneva Steel and retired after 35 years of service.
John will be remembered for being a person who would help anyone in need, from delivering fresh eggs and bread, to giving of himself anyway he could.
Johns greatest satisfaction in life was serving his family, whom he loved so dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Addie, of Pleasant Grove; children: Diane Hansen, Joye Roundy, Lynette (Brent) Chynoweth, Jeff (Kay) Roundy; 30 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren; step-children: Jeri (Mark) Harding, and Nancy Marks; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his son, Kent Roundy; son-in-law, Steven Hansen; and step-son, Jed Houston.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at 11 a.m., in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, where Military Rites will be conducted.
Friends may call prior to the services, from 9-10:30 a.m., at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove.
