She was born May 9, 1923 to Joseph W. and Katherine Ryan Backman in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated with High Honors from West High School and completed her education at LDS Business College. During the war years she was employed at Hill Air Force Base. Her employment thereafter was with Mountain States Telephone Company as an account representative. She received several awards for efficiency in operation. Her accounts were always up to date and current. She retired after 34 years of service to care for her aging mother. Peggy was a compassionate daughter and sister, devoting a good part of her life as a caregiver to her parents and to an ailing brother. She was most generous with her means in helping others. Her three loving nephews not only enjoyed a bountiful Christmas at home; they would also find another array of gifts at Aunt Peggy's place. Peggy would also want to remember the cousins and life long friends who were near and dear to her and an important part of her life, her cousin Pat Ratham, and dear friends, Albert and Genevieve Romero.
She is survived by one brother: Joseph W. Backman (Ardelle) of Bountiful; three nephews: Beau Buck Backman (MaryBelle) of Sandy; Rick Ryan Backman (Claudia) from Colorado; and Jan Joseph Backman of Salt Lake City.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street, Salt Lake City.
Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
