Hazel Dodd Baswell
Granite Falls, N.C. - Mrs. Hazel Dodd Baswell, 89, passed away surrounded by her loving family Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 25, 1919, in St. Clair County, Ala., to the late Clemons Dodd and Clara Bell Sheffield Dodd.
Mrs. Baswell was a member of First Baptist Church in Granite Falls. She was a graduate of Ashville High School in Ashville, Ala., and the Gadsden Business College in Gadsden, Ala. She was a retired secretary from Lockheed-Martin. Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved life, her family, friends and church. She was known best for her sense of humor, gardening skills, wonderful cooking and competitive spirit.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nine siblings.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Hoyt Baswell; her children, Linda Baswell DuBose and husband, Tom, of Winston-Salem, Rita Baswell Rhinehart of Kirkland, Wash., and Doug Baswell and wife, Lori, of Granite Falls. Mrs. Baswell also is survived by her six grandchildren, Keri Rhinehart Whitehead and husband, Rob, of Lynnwood, Wash., Nathan Scott DuBose and wife, Leigh, of McKinney, Texas, Emily DuBose Lewis and husband, Andrew, of London, England, Mindy Baswell of Keystone, Colo., and Callie Baswell Smith and husband, Andy, and Macie Baswell Knight and husband, Ken, all of Granite Falls. She also is survived by six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Dodd Bowling and Ethlyn Dodd Fuqua; and two brothers, Wayne Dodd and Gene Dodd.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Mackie-High Funeral Home. The service for Mrs. Baswell will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Granite Falls, with the Dr. Robert B. Evans Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
The Granite Falls Lions Club will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mackie-High Funeral Home is serving the Baswell family.
