OBITUARY FROM THE BRENHAM BANNER PRESS: Winkelmann
Walter C. Winkelmann, 87, of Brenham, died July 19, 2004 in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Winkelmann was born Aug. 17, 1916, in the Zionsville community of Washington County, Texas, to Charlie and Louise Nolte Winkelmann. He was baptized in October 1916 in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville and was confirmed March 20, 1932 in the same church. Mr. Winkelmann was educated at Hoddeville School. On Oct. 25, 1939, he was married to Elsie Spreen in St. John's Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. Mr. Winkelmann was retired from farming and Brentex Mills. He liked to fish and spend time with family and friends playing cards and dominoes. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Winkelmann of Brenham; son, Walter Winkelmann, Jr., of College Station; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Marvin Haevischer of Brenham; three grandchildren, Cindy Keathley, Cheri Addicks and Christy Dallmeyer; great-grandchildren, Aubree Haevisher, Ashley Keathley and Joshua, Jonathan and Jessica Devine; half-sisters, Edna Schramme and husband Burney of Brenham and Selma Quebe and husband Wilfred of Katy; brother-in-law, John W. Spreen and wife Mildred of Brenham; and sister-in-law, Lorene Winkelmann of Brenham. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother; brothers, Harry Winkelmann and wife Violet and Reinhardt Winkelmann; sister, Lydia Jones and husband Gordon Jones, and nephew, Glen Roy Jones. The funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 in St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill with Dr. Sue Beall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:30 - 8 p.m. today in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Friends and relatives will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
