Many members of the May family gathered in April of 1930 in Floyd County at Alphoretta - located at the forks of Beaver Creek - to celebrate the 58th birthday of Arzilla Pratt May. She was the wife of Beverly Lewis Clarke May and - since she died the following year - quite possibly was ill at the time of the gathering.
B.L.C. May (1859-1952) was a very successful and well-known timberman, contractor and farmer, who established his home in Alphoretta, KY at the forks of Beaver Creek in 1890. A grand celebration of the May family in 1930 was said in the Floyd County Times to have been "One of the largest and most pleasant social gatherings ever held in this section," with a list of friends and relatives from Alphoretta, Warco, Prestonsburg, Allen, Martin, Langley and Paintsville noted.
