Clifford L. Akin, 63, of Benton went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 6, 2004.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Glad Tidings Church, 515 W. 8th St. in West Frankfort with Sister Ruth Hayes and Brother Mark Goines officiating. Family and friends may call to the church after 1 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at the Brady Cemetery in Akin. Morton & Johnston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Clifford was born May 23, 1940, in Benton, the son of the Rev. Raymond R. and Ida M. Akin. He married Sharon K. (Hosick) Akin on April 10, 1967, in Lincoln, Illinois. He leaves behind his wife, Sharon Akin; two sons, the Rev. Patrick Akin, West Frankfort, and Roger Akin and wife Marcella Akin of Benton; two daughters, Loretta Andrews of West Frankfort and Kimberly Akin of Kentucky; six grandchildren, Brooke Andrews, Lacey Akin, David Andrews, Ryan Akin, Makayla Andrews and Cassandra Akin; four brothers and one sister, the Rev. James and Rosalie Akin of Benton, Chris and Shirley Akin of Streator, Betty Hammond of Benton, Leroy and Vickie Akin of Benton, and Gary and Barbara Akin of Benton. Mr. Akin also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. His parents, the Rev. Raymond R. and Ida M. Akin of Benton, preceded Mr. Akin in death. One brother William E. Akin also preceded him in death, as did two nieces, Sheila K. Hammond of Benton and Christina K. Akin of Streator.
