ANTHONY, LAWRENCE 1819-1878 WARE

Lawrence Anthony was born December 8, 1819, in Chatham County, Georgia . His father's name is unknown, and his mother's name was Ruth. He married Sarah Ann Norman of Liberty County, Georgia. Nothing is known of her family. She was born February 17, 1819. They were married, June 2 , 1839, at the home of the Justice of the Inferior Court, Ben James. Lawrence and Sarah Anthony had the following children:

1. William H. b. 5/13/1840, died single in Civil War, d. 7/29/1863. i n Staunton, Va.
2. Nancy Norman b. 5/22/1842, m. Coleman M. Eunice, 4/12/1860.
3. Samuel Couturier b. 9/5/1844, Nothing known of him.
4. Ruth "Ruthie" b. 1/13/1847, m. Jasper V. Eunice, 1/3/1867, son of Hugh.
5. Luanna b. 5/14/1849, m. Joel Roberson.
6. Sarah Ann Jane b. 1/6/1852, m. Jabez James Rowell, son of James A. and Temperance Dowling Rowell.
7. Charity b. 7/15/1854, m. Allen Elijah Strickland, son of Allen and Elenor.
8. Rachel L. b. 8/11/1858, died young.
9. Lewis Franklin b. 7/19/1861, m. 1) Laura McMillan, 11/15/1878,
2) Lelia Amanda Whitehead, 12/2/1894.

Lawrence Anthony moved to Ware County in the late 1830's and is found there on the 1840 census. He lived in the 1231 District according to t he 1862 Tax Digest. Lawrence Anthony was a Private in Capt. David J. Miller's Militia during the Indian Wars. He served from June 9, 1838 t o August 19, 1838. He and his wife were members of Mount Pleasant Church. He was one of the men who helped construct the first Church at Mount Pleasant. He died September 7, 1878, and his wife died July 6, 1897 . They are both buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
