Eldest of eight children.

Freeport KS Leader, Thursday, May 9, 1889:
Our popular grocer, Mr. C.J. Loshbough, was setting up the cigars to the boys Friday, all on account of the arrival of a brand new girl baby at his house. The mother and daughter are both doing well, but the father is still acting strangely, and declares that he will now sell groceries cheaper than ever. We can't for the life of us see how he can afford to do it, but they say it's a fact, nevertheless.
