Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Monroe South Ward chapel for Mrs. Lora Ann Gifford Christensen, 73, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lavell Washburn of Monroe, July 31, following a stroke.
Bishop Melbourne DeMille presided at the services, Speakers were Bishop Ivan L. Folsey of Marysvale, Wilford Hansen, Joseph A. Smith and Bishop DeMille. Musical numbers by the ward choir were "Though Deepening Trials," "The Upper Gardens," in which Edna Christensen sang the solo, and "Sometimes We'll Understand." "Some Day the Silver Cord Will Break," was sung by Thos. Ransom. The opening prayer was by Lucian Winget; the benediction by Walter O. Lundgreen.
Interment was in the Monroe Cemetery. Edward Bredsguard dedicated the grave.
Mrs. Christensen was born in Manti in 1862. At the age of eight years she moved with her parents to Dixie. Her marriage to Christian Christensen, who died at Monroe in 1923, took place in the St. George Temple in 1877.
Fourteen children were born to them, of whom seven survive: Mrs. Laura Dalton of Spanish Fork; Mrs. Cornelia Button of Marysvale; Ellis Christensen of Kanarra; Mrs. Christene Washburn of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Bessie Price of Pierce, Idaho and William Christensen of Marysvale. Surviving also are 33 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Freeborn Gifford and Moses Gifford of Springdale.
Among the relatives who went to Monroe for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Moses Gifford and family; Mr. and Mrs. Samuel K. Crawford, Emily Gifford, Jane Gifford, Lora Christensen, Herbert Christensen and Nancy Crawford of Springdale, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Button, Jack and Kate Button and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan L. Foisey of Marysvale.
