Alys Mae Corr was born on July 31, 1882, in Sallis, Attala, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Professor Ptolemy Watkins Corr and Elizabeth Clarke Morton Corr, two accomplished educators.
Her parents moved to Florida around 1887 and she lived in Gainesville, Florida where her father served as a Principal and Baptist Preacher. Alys moved with her family from the Baptist Parsonage in East Gainesville to Dade City, Florida where her father where her father assumed the leadership of the South Florida Normal Institute on Church Avenue in Dade City.
Alys was highly skilled in Latin and Mathematics and taught in many locations. She was on the summer faculty of Normal Institute in Jasper, Florida.
She enjoyed writing and publishing and in 1917 was on staff at the University of Florida writing for the newspaper, "The Alligator By 1918, she was recognized as one of four women making success in the newspaper business with her work on the newspaper for Florida educators
As her mother was ill for many years, she assumed care duties and did not marry.
Throughout the decade of the 1920's Alys was on faculty at the Cocoa, Florida schools along with her father. She assumed a summer term at the Quay School and was promoted to the position of Principal.
She spent several summers at Mercer University in teaching classes as well.
She passed away on April 20, 1948, in Gainesville (Alachua County), Florida. She was survived by her younger sister, Jessica Lee Corr Stenstrom and four nieces and two nephews.
