Catherine A. Neff (Pettera), 77, of Muscoda, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the UW Hospital in Madison. Catherine was born January 2, 1931, to Frank and Mary (Stepanek) Pettera.

On April 9, 1953, she married Walter Raymond Neff and together they farmed on the Neff Family Farm in rural Muscoda, until she moved to town. She was an active member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church, CCW, and Catholic Knights. She lead the rosary at the nursing home every Friday for many years.

She and Walter were long time 4-H Leaders of the Green Meadows 4-H Club, as well as being active in REA, Farm Bureau, Mid America Dairyman, and Accelerated Genetics. Catherine loved her family, sewing clothes, taking care of her big garden, asparagus patch, and chickens. She enjoyed her houseplants, baking homemade bread, and taking care of her grandchildren.

Catherine is survived by, six children, Mary (Jim) Patten of Steuben, Liz (Dennis) Hasburgh of Avoca, David Neff of Blue River, Michael (Vicki) Neff of Fennimore, Patrick (Cathy) Neff of Muscoda, Theresa (Rod) Sander of Montfort, 13 grandchildren, Erika (Charles) Clark, Kim, Janet, and Jaime Patten, Becky, Jackie, and Kristi Hasburgh, Carrie (Ryan) Pratt, Jim Neff, Joanne (Chris) Ude, Patrick Neff, and Luke and Coley Sander, 6 great grandchildren, Helen, TJ, Michelle, Jorga Clark, Tomara Merten, and Emily Perez, brothers and sisters, Marguerite Luttig, Frances Turnmire, Rose Morse, Darlene (Don) Cunitz, Elsie (Bill) Roberts, Gertie Jensen, Lucy Spears, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Walter, an infant son Robert Paul, her parents Frank and Mary Pettera, two brothers Laverne and Joe Pettera, and a daughter-in-law Jeanne Freymiller - Neff.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Muscoda with Father Rob Butz and Father Laverne Meier officiating. Burial followed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

Friends called at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, where a rosary will be held at 4:00 PM. Friends also called at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church on Thursday, October 30, 2008 from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass at 11:00 AM.

The Godager Funeral Home of Muscoda assisted the family with their arrangements.
