SHIRLEY L. BENDER

LAVALE ‹ Shirley Lou Bender, 64, of 10904 Bradour Ave., LaVale, went to be with the Lord Jesus, Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Memorial Hospital.

Born April 4, 1936, in Flintstone, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Nelson Weicht and Mae Ruth (Trail) Weicht. She also was preceded in death by her second husband, Howard M. "Peanut" Bender II, in April 1999; and one brother, Paul Weicht.

Mrs. Bender was a homemaker, brilliantly creative and used her talents in her occupations and in her home. She operated an antique store on Virginia Avenue, was an independent Tiara sales lady, and a former employee of the Crystal Laundry. She also was a member of the Henry Hart Post #1411 V.F.W. Auxiliary, Women of the Moose #914, a 1954 graduate of Flintstone High School, and a member of the Highland Baptist Church.

She is survived by five daughters, Nancy L. Wolford and husband Harry E., Frostburg, Karen S. Burton, Cumberland, Joyce M. Westfall, Frostburg, Vicky L. Westfall, Jensen Beach, Fla., and Cheryl R. Lindner and husband Bryan L., Cumberland; one son, Larry L. Westfall, LaVale; her first husband and father of her children, Charles L. Westfall, Cumberland; two sisters, Adella Ruth Durrett, Hyndman, Pa., and Sue E. Kisamore and husband Eugene, Flintstone; four brothers, Thomas Weicht and wife Jeannie, Dover, Pa., Kenneth Weicht and wife Diane, Gaithersburg, Nelson D. Weicht and wife Alice, Little Orleans, and Donald Weicht Sr. and wife JoAnn, Williamsport; seven grandchildren, Lesley and Robert Burton, Gina Hansrote, James Wolford, Jeremy, Matthew and Steven Westfall; four great-grandchildren, Brittney and Brandon Burton and Cody and Kaitlyn Hansrote; and two step-grandchildren, Ashley and Travis Lindner.

She was precious and loved by all her children, family members, friends and neighbors.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
