My 5th-great grandfather, George Cox, was the son of Isaac and Susan (Tomlinson) Cox, Isaac's first wife. Isaac's second wife was Mary X, and they had no issue. According to George's Revolutionary War pension application, he stated he was born Oct. 1749 in Hampshire Co., VA (now WV) and was married in Ohio Co., VA, Feb. 13, 1775 to Susanna Decker, daughter of John Decker and Dinah Kuykendall. George served as an Ensign defending Holiday's Fort against the Indians whom the British (in particular Gov. Henry Hamilton) paid as allies during the Revolution in the area of the West Augusta Dist.; Yohogania Co., VA; Ohio Co., VA; and Washington Co., PA. George served his community as a road surveyor, road supervisor, court mediator and juror according to Ohio Co., VA (now WV) court records. The Brooke Cemetery manager told me George was actually buried on the Cox farm a couple of miles from the Brooke Cemetery, but his remains were moved to Brooke Cemetery around 1875. However, the land for Brooke Cemetery was purchased from George Cox. George and Susanna's children were: Nancy, John, Joseph, Isaac, George, Susannah, Matthew, James and Friend.
