Esther Ella Wiede Aars, 84, of Clifton, Texas, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility where she had been a resident for almost nine years. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clifton. Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Clifton Funeral Home. Raymond Zuehlke, vice-president of Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility, will share "Remembrances" of Esther. Interment will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Church Cemetery at Norse.
Esther Ella was born to the late Henry and Emma (Kettler) Wiede and raised on the family farm in the now vanished community of Garnersville, Texas. She became a child of God through Holy Baptism on May 28, 1924, at Prairie Church in Garnersville. She was confirmed on June 5, 1938, by Pastor G.A. Obenhause at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clifton. She was active in her faith: teaching Sunday School, being an officer for LWML, attending Women's Bible Study, and helping with Vacation Bible School.
On June 7, 1945, she married Alton Harlan Aars in Immanuel Lutheran Church. They made their home in Norse on the Aars family farm. When Alton died in 1990, she continued to live on the farm until 1992, when she purchased a home in Clifton. She was employed by Clifton Livestock Commission Company for several years and then at the Bank of America, and she remained there until her retirement on Dec. 31, 1989.
Esther enjoyed cooking, sewing, church activities, and being with her sisters and family. In 1993, she was diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis, a muscle-wasting disease which eventually forced her to move to the Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility in November 1999. Even with her many struggles, she continued to be a source of strength to others as well as a witness for God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Aars; brothers, Jack and Alton Wiede; and sisters, Dora Bertha Kruse, Gladys Forson, and Katherine Lillie Stewart.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Hampe and husband, Lloyd; son, Allen Aars and wife, Kay; grandchildren, Chris Hampe, Laura Oborski, Shelley Hampe Wilson, Lisa Russ, and Travis Hampe, Mike and Matt Aars and Melanie Marx; great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Wyatt, and Shelby Hampe; Ashleigh Thornton, Tylar and Jackson Oborski; Corrine, Erik, Anya, Emma, and Brett Aars; and Jacob Marx; foster granddaughter, Penny Templin; and sisters, Ruby Golden and Fran Reesing.
